2024 CSA Sign-Up

Moody Root Farm’s CSA share features 16 weeks of fresh produce and herbs delivered to your community! Invest in your health and a small business this year by committing to eating food grown in living soil, cared for by a passionate young farmer.

You will receive a variety of vegetables, including fan favorites like potatoes, melons and tomatoes as well as some unique items such as cucamelons, ground cherries and tomatillos. Each box will contain 6-8 items per week selected by the farmer. An example of a weekly box during the summer: 2 medium zucchini, one pint cherry tomatoes, 2 pounds potatoes, garlic, lettuce, dill and 2 cucumbers.

Wednesday deliveries will be made starting in July to pick-up sites in Abbotsford, Minocqua and Lake Tomahawk. All members are responsible for picking up their share each week.

CSA stands for “community supported agriculture.” These programs not only support local businesses and get fresh food into communities, they also help foster relationships between eaters and farmers. Being part of a CSA is a wonderful way to experience seasonal eating and learn more about small-scale farming practices.

By committing to CSA, your membership is not only helping fund big purchases at the beginning of the year’s farming cycle, such as seeds, compost and tools, but you are also investing in the future of sustainable farming. Moody Root Farm’s small-scale practices differ greatly from the ways of conventional agriculture — the majority of Farmer Hannah’s work is done by hand, as she thoughtfully creates a farm ecosystem that not only benefits her food production, but also protects pollinators and other nearby critters, builds healthy soils and respects the ebbs and flows of nature. To learn more about Farmer Hannah’s practices and how the farm is set up, check out the farm blog, just a website page away.

While there are many rewards to being a CSA member, farming can be a risky business. If a crop failure occurs due to weather or another unforeseen circumstance, it’s possible members will not receive a given item throughout the season. Worry not, though! Moody Root Farm grows over 30 different crops, so there will be plenty to go around even if it’s a bad season for cauliflower or kohlrabi. On the flip side, if there is a bumper crop of something, members will have the opportunity to receive more.

Members will also receive a newsletter to accompany shares weekly which will contain recipes, produce storage tips and farm stories unique to each box. At the start of the season, each new member will also get a reusable Moody Root Farm bag to transport their share home as well as a CSA guide highlighting the different crops members may receive in their shares.

*Moody Root Farm is not certified organic, but follows organic standards. This is how Farmer Hannah learned to farm and she is committed to stewarding the land in a healthy, responsible way. Organic certification may be pursued in the future.
